ISTANBUL: Turkey military explains it found the bodies of two pilots shot downby Syria during a contested flight, an announcement that is likely to lead to renewed finger-pointing over an event that has pushed the neighbors' relations to a new low.The military General Staff in Ankara said it was working to remove the pilots' bodies from the Mediterranean Sea. The military statement on Wednesday didn't offer additional details on where the bodies were found.
But a Turkish official later said that wreckage of the plane had been located in the sea at a depth of 1,285 meters, or about three-quarters of a mile deep.
The finding is likely to renew attention on where and how the Turkish RF4 surveillance jet was downed on June 22, an event that raised tensions along Turkey's 565-mile border with Syria.
