INDIA: Protection software maker Symantec advised web customers not to use e-mail ids being used for public networks like Facebook, Twitter for undertaking internet economical or dealings to avoid taking of economical data.
"They (internet users) should be more careful while on public networks. They should have separate e-mail id for public media website and other e-mail id for undertaking dealings like economical," Symantec MD Shantanu Ghosh told correspondents here while responding to a question steps needed to be protected from on the internet strike on public networks.
"We have observed that on public networks, people usually share their detail such as personal ones with their friends as well as with those whom they do not know much and here they face the risk (of being attacked)," he said.
"Cyber assailants then can try to get into your e-mail ids through viruses on these websites and try to grab vital details like bank cards details," he said. He said not to click on any "untrusted" link in their e-mails or public media website as it also presents risk of taking important economical details of the individual.
Ghosh also mentioned an example when a viruses in the name of bollywood female acting professional Hurricane katrina anniversary passes Kaif video was received by web customers on their e-mail ids in Indian and later it was found that the viruses was intended to grab bank cards details of the individual. Recognizing that the number of malwares in the internet has grown to millions in Indian in last few years, he also pressured on be careful on mounting a secure security password for their e-mail ids to prevent any on the internet strike.
"Some customers use e-mail security password as partner's birthday or anniversary day or beginning year and most of these details are available on their public media website account and it can also be abused by on the internet assailants," he said. He added that medium and little company in places like Chandigarh, Surat, Jaipur are facing the risk of on the internet strike because of less investing by little company owners on security technological innovation and growing use of on the internet.
"Small places, such as Chandigarh, are discussing great deal of viruses activity...(because) these companies are not investing much on security technological innovation which makes them susceptible to on the internet strike," Ghosh said. He said increasing use of high speed internet and low awareness among company owners about malwares are also some of the reasons behind their weeknesses of on the internet strike.
"Augmented by high speed internet transmission, smaller and growing places of Indian are discovering opportunities offered by the virtual globe in turn creating a new profitable pool of objectives for on the internet thieves to manipulate," he said. As per the Symantec Internet Protection, a significant 25 per cent of little and growing places like Chandigarh, Surat, Cochin, Jaipur are contaminated by malwares.
